Have you ever noticed after watching a commercila on television that something seems different? Some editor has tweeked the cut for one reason or other.

Often, this is a result of broadcast regulations.

Occasionally, an ad sneaks by the regulators with a messaage that could be misleading or downright false. Other times, the regulators are reacting to complaints from everyday citizens or groups.

As you will see here, the changes are sometimes justified, sometimes questionable and other times, completely rediculous.

This series of very popular ads had to be re-edited to comply with Canadian regulators. The un-edited versions appear here. If you see them on TV anymore, you will notice that the 'actor' drinks the Brisk Iced Tea after he performs his feat of strength or skill. The law just wouldn't let them show the drink giving them any 'unusual' strength or energy.

The last thing you want to imply is that you can beat people up or hit home runs simply by drnking some sugar water

I'm looking for a copy of a car ad that was releaseded a couple years ago. In it, a couple is seen walking down the street when a beautiful woman walks by at the same time the couple passes a new car. The guy turns to look at the car and the woman hits him for what she thinks is a wandering eye. Apparently, groups complained that the physical aspect of the ad was inappropriate. It later appeared without the woman striking the man.

If I find the ad, I'll post it here.

It was recently that we produced a few ads for the Workers Compensation Board in Saskatchewan. Long after the series had aired, it came to the agencies attention (some anonymous phone call around midnite) that there was a problem with one of the ads. Instead of five legs, the chair in the ad only had four. The person who brought this to our attention suggested that since this was the WCB, they should not show an unsafe chair, so..... back to the drawing board and we corrected the spot to reflect the 'reality' of the the situation. All in animation.

Apparently, four legs is unsafe and five is the 'real' norm.

Apparently Gumby is not the only one with a good lawyer!

There have been other commercials over the years and there will be others as time passes. The idea is to catch them when we can and collect them here. It's not a huge political 'PC' thing, just a hobby.
